A Young Student Left Without Education for Over a Year

Editor's Note (July 2026): This article was originally published in January 2025 and discusses a specific case reported at that time. While the original content has been retained for reference, we have also published an updated article exploring the broader importance of timely school placements and educational support.

Imagine being back in your youth, playing with friends, maybe getting into mischief and learning from your mistakes, but most importantly, going to an educational establishment, whether mainstream or independent. The trials and tribulations that you encountered, with some of the memories relaying back to you every now and again, which could conjure positive or negative emotions, but these events shaped who you are today.

Now imagine if you were denied access to appropriate education; how would this have changed your life? Where would you be now?

For a young person in Oxfordshire, this is the case. This student moved to Oxfordshire in September 2023 and still hasn’t been given an appropriate school placement for his needs. It was only a year later, in August 2024, that the local council stated that they had found an appropriate place for him; however, nothing has since materialised.

Your Teaching hopes that this matter gets resolved soon; the student and his family deserve the right to a fair and appropriate education, and it is unacceptable that the local council is yet to act for him. Although it has been stated by Oxfordshire Council that they have ‘agreed a course of action with the local government for this particular case,’ with no details made public yet.

Could there be more students like this who are falling through the cracks and not getting the education they deserve?
